Description
CVNE has made Corona at Villalba de Rioja, at the foot of the Sierra de Cantabria, since the 1939 harvest. This is a traditional white Rioja from Viura, aged in the classic oxidative style over 72 months in oak barrel. That long spell in wood, with slow contact with air, converts fresh fruit into deeper, developed aromas and gives a nutty, complex profile while acidity holds the wine together. The vineyards lie on chalky clay soils at altitude, which keeps the grapes fresh through the growing season. The wine is deep gold in the glass, with white flowers, pear, apple, toasted almond, beeswax and a warm spiced note from the wood. The palate is broad and layered, dry and long, with a saline, nutty finish that reflects its years in barrel. This is a serious white made in a style few producers still keep alive, and it drinks well now with several more years ahead. Serve it at 12 to 14 degrees in a large glass.

Additional information
This oxidative white Rioja is built for the table. Serve it with roast chicken, aged Comte or Gruyere, and cured ham, where its nutty depth comes into its own. It also handles richer white fish such as baked cod.
