Cvne Afrutado Blanco

Cvne Afrutado Blanco is a fresh white Rioja from CVNE, one of the region's historic houses, founded in 1879. It blends Viura, the region's traditional white grape, with Garnacha Blanca, which adds a little more body and stone fruit. As the name suggests, this is an afrutado or fruit-forward style: made young, without oak, to capture the grapes' aromatics and acidity. Stainless steel fermentation at cool temperatures preserves the primary fruit and the wine's freshness, and the lack of barrel keeps the profile bright and direct rather than nutty or developed. The colour is pale with green highlights, and the nose is open and fruity, leading with green apple, white peach and citrus, with pear and a hint of melon behind. The palate is light and easy, dry but generous in fruit, with lemony acidity giving it a clean, refreshing finish. This is an everyday white built for immediate drinking rather than cellaring, and it does its job without fuss. Serve well chilled at 8 to 10 degrees. It works as an aperitif and with a wide range of lighter dishes, from shellfish to salads.
