Bodegas Cunqueiro makes this Ribeiro white from Treixadura with Godello, Albariño and a little Loureira. It ferments in stainless steel and rests three months on its lees. Broad and persistent, it shows white flowers, delicate herbs and fresh orchard fruit.
Description
Bodegas Cunqueiro works in the D.O. Ribeiro in inland Galicia, where the Atlantic influence meets a warmer, more sheltered river-valley climate than the coast. This white is led by Treixadura, the region's benchmark grape, filled out with Godello, Albariño and a smaller share of Loureira, a blend that captures the plurality of Ribeiro. The fruit is pneumatically pressed at the stainless steel winery and fermented at a controlled temperature to preserve its aromatics. The wine then spends three months on its fine lees, where the settled yeast slowly breaks down and adds body and a subtle savoury depth while keeping the fruit fresh. The result is powerful, broad and persistent for a young white. It shows white flowers and delicate herbs over green apple, white peach and pear, with a citrus lift. The palate is textured and dry, with good breadth and a clean, faintly saline close carried by Galician acidity. Serve at 9 to 11 degrees in a white wine glass. It works with shellfish and lighter poultry dishes.
