Crystal Head is made in Canada from GMO-free corn, a base grain that lends a naturally sweet, clean neutrality. The spirit is distilled four times and then filtered seven times, with three of those passes run through layers of Herkimer diamonds, a quartz crystal used here as a polishing filter to lift out any remaining harshness. Nothing else goes in: no additives, oils or sugar, only pure water from Newfoundland, and at 40% the result is silky and notably clean.
The nose is fresh and pure with light citrus and a mineral hint, the palate soft and velvety with subtle vanilla, white pepper and a gentle sweetness, and the finish is long, clear and silky. A spirit this clean and softly sweet makes a fine Vodka Martini, so stir it ice-cold with just a wash of dry vermouth and serve it straight up in a chilled glass with a twist of lemon, where the corn's sweetness and faint pepper carry the drink and nothing rough gets in the way.
