Soft and summery, sweet blackcurrant buds and ripe fruit lead this Latvian craft gin, which pours a delicate violet in the glass. It comes from the Riga house behind the famous Black Balsam, a city with a long rebellious streak in its drinks. Lightly sweet, with a long, gentle finish.

Description
Cross Keys is made by Latvijas Balzams in Riga, the same house responsible for the legendary Riga Black Balsam, an alchemical herbal bitter dating to 1752. Riga has always bred rebels and unusual drinks, and this blackcurrant craft gin carries a little of that spirit. The cassis gives it a delicate violet tint in the glass and a sweet, summery character that sets it apart from the dry London style.
The nose is gently sweet with summery aromas and a note of fresh buds. The palate follows suit, sweetish and summery with that bud-like blackcurrant character running through, before a long finish on the palate. It is at its easiest neat over ice cubes, where the violet colour and soft fruit show best, or simply lengthened with a good tonic water.
