Description
A Craigellachie of a 10 year old chosen by the bottler That Boutique-y Whisky Company, from cask 2130, bottled at 50.3%, one of 2987 bottles. Craigellachie was founded in 1891 by a consortium led by Peter Mackie of White Horse fame. Its malt has long been the muscular heart of the White Horse blend.
Run through the distillery's stills and old fashioned worm tubs, for the muscular, meaty make Craigellachie is known for. Maturation came in ex-Bourbon wood, the oak quiet behind the heavy spirit. Integration folds eugenol (clove) and vanillin (vanilla) into the malt, the robust body turning fruitier. The cool Speyside air gives a slow, even maturation, the young sulphur fading to fruit. The distillery was founded in 1891 by a group led by Peter Mackie, the man behind the White Horse blend. With age the meaty young spirit turns to pineapple, mango and a waxy depth.
At 50.3%, undiluted, it is deep and fruity. Pineapple, malt and a savoury edge, with a soft vanilla from the oak. The mouthfeel is heavy and oily, the fruit carried on a meaty body. The finish runs meaty, waxy and warm. This is the worm tub malt of Craigellachie.
