Description
Craigellachie from the distillery, a 37 year old, at 46.5%, 3012 bottles in all. Craigellachie is a robust, oily Speyside single malt made on worm tub condensers. The official range runs a thirteen, seventeen and twenty three year old, with rare older bottlings.
The spirit was worked through stills and worm tubs for a muscular, oily spirit, giving the heavy, oily spirit at its heart. First fill bourbon gave a fuller vanilla and pineapple over the robust spirit. In its ethereal years the malt is deep and oxidative, faded esters and a touch of sotolon (maple, spice). Most Craigellachie goes quietly into blends, a robust filler kept in part as single malt. The cool Speyside air gives a slow, even maturation, the young sulphur fading to fruit. It was launched as a single malt brand in 2014, with a bare knuckle, old fashioned image. Craigellachie is one of the last Speyside malts still built on worm tubs.
Bottled at 46.5%, it is rounded. Malt, dried fruit and a savoury oil, with a soft vanilla from the oak. Pineapple, malt and a savoury wax fill the middle. The finish is deep, oily and savoury. This is Craigellachie, the meaty heart of White Horse.
