A Craigellachie of a 15 year old chosen by the bottler The Caskhound, distilled in 2009, from cask 305007, bottled at 46.8%, one of 161 bottles. Craigellachie is a Bacardi owned Speyside distillery whose worm tubs give a heavy, meaty spirit. Bacardi's John Dewar and Sons bought it in 1998, alongside Aberfeldy, Aultmore and Royal Brackla.

The spirit was distilled for the heavy, meaty spirit Craigellachie is known for, building the old fashioned Craigellachie style. A sherry butt held it, the wood lending raisin and walnut to the robust spirit. Through oxidative maturity esters concentrate, the worm tub weight turning to mango and a waxy depth. The oily spirit shows the cask clearly, vanilla and tropical fruit over a meaty malt. Long ageing turns the young, sulphurous spirit towards mango, wax and a warm spice. The distillery was founded in 1891 by a group led by Peter Mackie, the man behind the White Horse blend.

At an approachable 46.8% it is soft and easy. A muscular, waxy sweetness, with raisin, date and treacle from the cask. The mouthfeel is heavy and oily, the fruit carried on a meaty body. It finishes robust, waxy and warm. This is one of Speyside's most robust single malts.
