From the bottler Jack Wiebers Whisky World, a 13 year old Craigellachie, distilled in 2009, from cask 21107, bottled at 53.3%, one of 60 bottles. Craigellachie is a Bacardi owned Speyside distillery whose worm tubs give a heavy, meaty spirit. The distillery was founded in 1891 by a group led by Peter Mackie, the man behind the White Horse blend.

Run through the distillery's stills and old fashioned worm tubs, building the old fashioned Craigellachie style. A sherry cask wrapped the muscular spirit in dried fruit and a nutty depth. Through integration spirit and wood marry, vanillin settling into vanilla as ethyl esters lend a riper, tropical fruit over the meaty malt. The cool Speyside air gives a slow, even maturation, the young sulphur fading to fruit. A big sherry cask suits the muscular spirit, dried fruit meeting the meaty weight.

Bottled at a cask strength 53.3%, it is rich. A robust, oily fruitiness, with dried fruit, fig and walnut from the cask. It is robust and waxy, the muscular spirit shining through. A long, oily finish carries a tropical depth. This is Craigellachie, the meaty heart of White Horse.
