A Craigellachie of a 13 year old chosen by the bottler Jack Wiebers Whisky World, distilled in 2001, from cask 0203, bottled at 51.2%, one of 55 bottles. Craigellachie is a Bacardi owned Speyside distillery whose worm tubs give a heavy, meaty spirit. It keeps its worm tub condensers, an old fashioned set up that builds a heavy, meaty, sulphurous spirit.

It was worked through stills and worm tubs for a muscular, oily spirit, for the muscular, meaty make Craigellachie is known for. An ex-Bourbon barrel shaped it, vanilla and pineapple beneath the muscular malt. By the integrating teens the sulphur fades and esters build, pineapple and wax growing over the oily spirit. Refill oak lets the muscular Craigellachie character lead, malt and tropical fruit beneath. It was launched as a single malt brand in 2014, with a bare knuckle, old fashioned image. The heavy, oily make is prized by blenders for the backbone it gives White Horse.

At a hearty 51.2% it carries real weight. A robust, oily fruitiness, with a soft vanilla from the oak. Beneath it run meaty malt, tropical fruit and a waxy oil. It finishes robust, waxy and warm. This is Craigellachie, the meaty heart of White Horse.
