Description
The bottler Hannah Whisky Merchants Ltd bottled this Craigellachie, a 12 year old, distilled in 2009, from cask 307703 + 307704, bottled at 49.9%, one of 600 bottles. Craigellachie is a robust, fruity Speyside single malt from the heart of the region. The official range runs a thirteen, seventeen and twenty three year old, with rare older bottlings.
Made in copper stills whose worm tubs build a robust make, for a bold, meaty Speyside spirit. A sherry cask wrapped the muscular spirit in dried fruit and a nutty depth. Through integration spirit and wood marry, vanillin settling into vanilla as ethyl esters lend a riper, tropical fruit over the meaty malt. A big sherry cask suits the muscular spirit, dried fruit meeting the meaty weight. It was rebuilt in 1965, but kept its worm tubs where most distilleries dropped them. The robust make rewards long ageing, the meatiness giving way to tropical fruit.
At its natural 49.9% it is concentrated. A robust, oily fruitiness, with dried fruit, fig and walnut from the cask. A dried fruit and a savoury, oily depth give it weight. The finish is deep, oily and savoury. This is one of Speyside's most robust single malts.
