This Craigellachie was bottled by the London merchant Berry Bros and Rudd, an 11 year old, at 59.1%. Malt, tropical fruit and a savoury oil fill the glass, with dried fruit, fig and walnut from the cask. It keeps its old fashioned worm tub condensers for a heavy, robust spirit. This is Craigellachie’s robust, oily Speyside style.

A Craigellachie of an 11 year old chosen by the London merchant Berry Bros and Rudd, distilled in 2012, from cask 2949, bottled at 59.1%, one of 120 bottles. Craigellachie, where the Fiddich meets the Spey, is the meaty backbone of the White Horse blend. The distillery was founded in 1891 by a group led by Peter Mackie, the man behind the White Horse blend.
The spirit was run through the distillery's stills and old fashioned worm tubs, for the muscular, meaty make Craigellachie is known for. An Oloroso hogshead lent fig, raisin and a savoury, nutty edge. Through integration spirit and wood marry, vanillin settling into vanilla as ethyl esters lend a riper, tropical fruit over the meaty malt. Long ageing turns the young, sulphurous spirit towards mango, wax and a warm spice. Years in oak round the spirit, the worm tub weight turning to pineapple and wax.
At 59.1%, undiluted, it is deep and fruity. Pineapple, malt and a savoury edge, with dried fruit, fig and walnut from the cask. Pineapple, malt and a savoury wax fill the middle. A robust, malty finish ends on tropical fruit and a warm spice. This is Craigellachie's robust, oily Speyside style.
