Craigellachie 10 Years Old A Dream of Scotland Fairytale Series (Brühler Whiskyhaus)

A Craigellachie of a 10 year old chosen by the bottler Brühler Whiskyhaus, bottled at 57.6%, one of 299 bottles. Craigellachie is a Speyside distillery in the village of the same name, famous for its muscular, meaty single malt. The distillery was founded in 1891 by a group led by Peter Mackie, the man behind the White Horse blend.

Run through the distillery's stills and old fashioned worm tubs, building the old fashioned Craigellachie style. It rested in ex-Bourbon oak, the wood adding vanilla and a waxy tropical fruit. By the integrating teens the sulphur fades and esters build, pineapple and wax growing over the oily spirit. Most Craigellachie goes quietly into blends, a robust filler kept in part as single malt. Its malt has long been the muscular heart of the White Horse blend. The robust make rewards long ageing, the meatiness giving way to tropical fruit.

At a natural 57.6% it is full and honeyed. Meaty malt, tropical fruit and a waxy oil, with a soft vanilla from the oak. A baked fruit and a warm spice lift it. It finishes robust, waxy and warm. This is a full bodied Speyside single malt of real character.
