Description
A 10 year old Craigellachie from the Glasgow bottler Douglas Laing, distilled in 2012, from cask DL 15645, bottled at 46%, one of 405 bottles. Craigellachie, where the Fiddich meets the Spey, is the meaty backbone of the White Horse blend. Bacardi's John Dewar and Sons bought it in 1998, alongside Aberfeldy, Aultmore and Royal Brackla.
It was worked through stills and worm tubs for a muscular, oily spirit, building the old fashioned Craigellachie style. It was matured in refill ex-Bourbon oak, vanilla and a tropical fruit over the meaty spirit. In integration lactones (coconut) and vanillin (vanilla) knit with the malt, the worm tub weight softening to tropical fruit. Refill oak lets the muscular Craigellachie character lead, malt and tropical fruit beneath. With age the meaty young spirit turns to pineapple, mango and a waxy depth. It sits at the village of Craigellachie, where the River Fiddich joins the Spey by Telford's iron bridge.
Bottled at 46%, it is rounded. Mango, wax and a meaty depth, with a soft vanilla from the oak. Beneath it run meaty malt, tropical fruit and a waxy oil. The finish is long, oily and savoury. This is the muscular, meaty Speyside malt of Craigellachie.
