Description
This Craigellachie was bottled by the Pitlochry bottler Signatory Vintage, a 10 year old, distilled in 2012, from cask 900695, bottled at 67.4%, one of 634 bottles. Craigellachie is a Speyside distillery in the village of the same name, famous for its muscular, meaty single malt. With age the meaty young spirit turns to pineapple, mango and a waxy depth.
Distilled in copper stills with worm tub condensers on Blue Hill spring water, for the muscular, meaty make Craigellachie is known for. A sherry butt held it, the wood lending raisin and walnut to the robust spirit. In integration lactones (coconut) and vanillin (vanilla) knit with the malt, the worm tub weight softening to tropical fruit. The oily spirit shows the cask clearly, vanilla and tropical fruit over a meaty malt. It sits at the village of Craigellachie, where the River Fiddich joins the Spey by Telford's iron bridge.
At a natural 67.4% it is full and honeyed. A muscular, waxy sweetness, with dried fruit, fig and walnut from the cask. The mouthfeel is heavy and oily, the fruit carried on a meaty body. A long, oily finish carries a tropical depth. This is one of Speyside's most robust single malts.
