From the bottler Valinch & Mallet, a 10 year old Craigellachie, distilled in 2007, from cask 17-3111, bottled at 48.8%, one of 333 bottles. Craigellachie sits above Telford's famous Spey bridge, a Speyside distillery of real muscle. The official range runs a thirteen, seventeen and twenty three year old, with rare older bottlings.

Made in copper stills whose worm tubs build a robust make, for an oily, robust make that turns tropical with age. It was matured in refill ex-Bourbon oak, vanilla and a tropical fruit over the meaty spirit. By the integrating teens the sulphur fades and esters build, pineapple and wax growing over the oily spirit. Vanillin and oak lactones from the wood lend vanilla and coconut over the meaty malt. The meaty, oily spirit takes cask flavour well while keeping its robust, worm tub weight. Bacardi's John Dewar and Sons bought it in 1998, alongside Aberfeldy, Aultmore and Royal Brackla.

Bottled at a cask strength 48.8%, it is rich. Meaty malt, tropical fruit and a waxy oil, with a soft vanilla from the oak. A dried fruit and a savoury, oily depth give it weight. It finishes robust, waxy and warm. This is Craigellachie's robust, oily Speyside style.
