Craigellachie 10 Years Old 2006 Cask #CM 237 (The House of MacDuff)

This Craigellachie was bottled by the bottler The House of MacDuff, a 10 year old, distilled in 2006, from cask CM 237, bottled at 54.2%, one of 134 bottles. Craigellachie is a robust, fruity Speyside single malt from the heart of the region. It keeps its worm tub condensers, an old fashioned set up that builds a heavy, meaty, sulphurous spirit.

The spirit was drawn off pot stills cooled by traditional worm tubs, for the muscular, meaty make Craigellachie is known for. A bourbon barrel held it, vanilla and a soft spice over the oily malt. Through integration spirit and wood marry, vanillin settling into vanilla as ethyl esters lend a riper, tropical fruit over the meaty malt. The meaty, oily spirit takes cask flavour well while keeping its robust, worm tub weight. The robust make rewards long ageing, the meatiness giving way to tropical fruit. The oily spirit shows the cask clearly, vanilla and tropical fruit over a meaty malt.

At 54.2%, undiluted, it is deep and fruity. Tropical fruit, malt and a warm spice, with a soft vanilla from the oak. Pineapple, malt and a savoury wax fill the middle. The close is long, fruit over a meaty malt. This is the worm tub malt of Craigellachie.
