Description
Cragganmore from the distillery, at 48%, 1800 bottles in all. Cragganmore was built in 1869 beside the Strathspey Railway, a Speyside malt of real depth. Its spirit stills are flat topped with a wide neck, an unusual shape that builds a complex, fragrant spirit.
It was drawn off flat topped stills cooled by worm tubs, for the complex, fragrant make Cragganmore is known for. Maturation came in ex-Bourbon wood, the oak quiet behind the complex spirit. With no age statement, the oak has given vanillin as vanilla and oak lactones as coconut over the complex, malty spirit. The slow loss of the angel's share concentrates the fragrant, savoury core over the years. Most of its make goes to blending, with a twelve year old the flagship single malt. The distillery sits at Ballindalloch on the River Spey, in the heart of Speyside. The cool Speyside air gives a slow, even maturation, the flat topped stills' complexity deepening.
At cask strength 48% it is full bodied. Baked fruit, honey and a savoury depth, with a soft vanilla from the oak. The texture is full and complex, the fruit lifted by a meaty malt. A full, malty finish ends on dried fruit and a warm spice. This is Cragganmore, the heart of Old Parr.
