Description
A 14 year old Cragganmore from the independent Blackadder, distilled in 1993, from cask 1895, bottled at 61%, one of 282 bottles. Cragganmore is the complex, savoury Speyside malt of the Classic Malts range. It was the first distillery deliberately sited beside a railway, the Strathspey line carrying its whisky out.
Distilled for the complex, fragrant spirit Cragganmore is known for, for a meaty, fragrant make of real depth. It was matured in refill ex-Bourbon oak, vanilla and a soft honey behind the complex malt. By the integrating teens congeners fade and esters build, the complex, fragrant spirit growing rounder. Long ageing turns the fresh fruit towards dried fruit, fig, leather and a warm spice. Refill oak lets the complex Cragganmore character lead, malt and dried fruit beneath. The Distillers Edition is finished in Port wood, the house double matured expression.
At a natural 61% it is full and honeyed. A rich, complex maltiness, with a soft vanilla from the oak. The texture is full and complex, the fruit lifted by a meaty malt. A full, malty finish ends on dried fruit and a warm spice. This is one of the most complex of the Speyside malts.
