Costa delle Parracine grows Forastera on the volcanic slopes of Ischia, off the Campanian coast, where vines cling to dry stone terraces above the sea. Four months in oak barrel round out a pale straw wine of lemon, white peach and a saline edge.

Description
Costa delle Parracine works the near vertical volcanic terraces of Ischia, the island in the Gulf of Naples where vines are held up by the parracine, kilometres of dry stone walls stacked from local rock. Forastera is a native Campanian white suited to this ground. The volcanic tuff and mineral rich soils drain fast and hold daytime heat, while sea breezes and the island's altitude preserve acidity through ripening, giving the wine its cut and its salty character. After fermentation the wine spends four months in oak barrel, a light touch that softens the texture and adds a faint nutty note without covering the fruit. It is pale straw yellow with a youthful cast. The nose is lemon, green apple and white peach lifted by white flowers, with a stony, sea salt freshness underneath. The palate is dry and bright, medium bodied, closing on almond and a mineral finish that reflects the volcanic site. Serve well chilled at 8 to 10 degrees in a standard white glass.
