Còsmic Vinyaters works biodynamically in the Penedès, with minimal intervention. Gratitud Negre is a varietal Cabernet Franc with just 3 months in French oak, giving a fresh, herbal red of red berries, redcurrant and a peppery, leafy edge at 14 percent.
Description
Còsmic Gratitud Negre is a red wine without denomination of origin, made by Còsmic Vinyaters in the Penedès near Barcelona. Salvador Batlle founded the project around preservation of the surroundings, respect for the land and minimal human intervention, farming on biodynamic principles. The fruit grows across cooler sites including the Serra del Montmell and higher inland plots, where altitude and calcareous soils give freshness and aromatic lift. The wine is a varietal Cabernet Franc, a grape that holds bright acidity and a savoury, leafy character. With only 3 months in French oak the barrel adds little spice, leaving the fruit, herbs and structure of the variety to show clearly. The colour is bright ruby. The nose leads with red berries and redcurrant over cherry, dried herbs and a peppery, leafy note typical of Cabernet Franc. The palate is light to medium, with fresh acidity, fine tannin and a clean, savoury finish. At 14 percent it stays lively and food-friendly rather than heavy. Serve at 15 to 16 degrees, lightly chilled if you prefer. Good with roast chicken, pork and grilled vegetables.
