Cosme Palacio Blanco 1894 is a Rioja white built on Viura with a little Malvasía, made by Bodegas Palacio with more than 120 years of history behind it. Seven months in French oak give it a rounded, gently creamy palate of white peach, citrus and toasted almond.

Description
Bodegas Palacio, part of Grupo Bodegas Palacio, has been making wine in D.O.Ca. Rioja for over 120 years, and Cosme Palacio Blanco 1894 sits within that classic Riojan tradition. The wine is built on Viura with a small proportion of Malvasía, the pairing behind the region's textured whites. The grapes come from Rioja's varied soils of clay, limestone and alluvial terraces, in a climate tempered by the Ebro valley and the shelter of the surrounding sierras, which holds a balance of ripeness and acidity. The wine spends seven months in French oak, where controlled oxygen exchange through the barrel and contact with the wine's own lees add a creamy weight and a light toasty, nutty complexity, in the aged-white Rioja mould. The colour is bright golden yellow. The nose shows white peach and citrus peel alongside vanilla, almond and beeswax, with a note of toasted bread and white flowers. The palate is dry and rounded, the oak and lees giving a smooth, gently creamy body that stays fresh into a long finish. Serve at 11 to 13 degrees.

Additional information
The oak-framed weight makes it a good match for roast chicken, pork loin and baked white fish in a cream or butter sauce. It also stands up to hard, nutty cheeses such as aged Manchego and Gruyère. Serve a little warmer than a crisp white to show the texture.
