Vittoria Delle Fontane is a Cerasuolo di Vittoria from COS in south-east Sicily, blending Nero d’Avola and Frappato. Farmed biodynamically and aged in concrete, it shows vibrant ruby colour, fresh cherry and red fruit, floral lift and a light, savoury palate.
Description
Vittoria Delle Fontane comes from Azienda Agricola COS in Vittoria, in south-east Sicily, an estate that helped define the DOCG Cerasuolo di Vittoria through biodynamic farming and low-intervention, natural winemaking. The wine blends Nero d'Avola, which gives structure and dark fruit, with Frappato, a light, perfumed Sicilian grape that lends freshness and floral aromatics. The vineyards grow on sandy, calcareous red soils, and the warm Mediterranean climate, cooled by coastal breezes and a wide diurnal range, ripens the fruit while keeping its acidity and bright character. The wine is aged twelve months in concrete tanks, a neutral vessel that lets it settle and breathe gently without the flavour of oak, keeping the fruit fresh and the colour vivid. It is a vibrant ruby in the glass. The nose shows ripe cherry and red berries with violet, pepper and a herbal, earthy lift. The palate is light to medium-bodied and savoury, with fine tannins, fresh acidity and an easy, fruit-driven finish. Serve lightly chilled at 14 to 15 degrees. It suits roast poultry, pork and tomato-based dishes.
