Coronas Crianza comes from Torres, the historic Penedès house founded in 1870. This Catalan blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Tempranillo spends nine months in American oak and shows ripe black fruit, dark cherry and a sweet vanilla spice.
Description
Coronas Crianza is a red from Torres, a Catalan family winery founded by Jaime Torres Vendrell in 1870 and rebuilt by the third generation after the Civil War. Coronas is the house's oldest brand, registered in 1907, and it carries the D.O. Catalunya designation, drawing across the region's vineyards. The blend joins Cabernet Sauvignon, which gives structure and dark fruit, with Tempranillo, which adds red fruit and a softer middle. The climate is Mediterranean, with dry warm summers and milder coastal influence, conditions that ripen Cabernet fully while the inland sites keep freshness. The wine ages nine months in American oak barrels, a wood that lends rounder, sweeter aromatics of vanilla and coconut and a creamy coconut-tinged spice, while the barrel's slow oxygen exchange settles the tannins. It is certified vegan. The colour is cherry-red with garnet edges. The nose shows ripe black fruit, dark cherry and red berries lifted by vanilla, cocoa and a leafy tobacco note. The palate is medium-bodied and rounded at 13.5 percent, with supple tannins and a savoury, lightly oaked finish. Serve at 16 to 18 degrees. It works with roasts and grilled meats.
