A 21 Year Old Mount Gay single cask bottled by Corman Collins at 49.3%, drier and oakier Barbados rum with citrus, vanilla, caramel and dark chocolate over noticeable wood spice, unsweetened and built for slow sipping.
Description
Mount Gay is the heritage distillery of Barbados, working pot and column stills in St Lucy under a lineage that reaches back to a 1703 deed. This single cask of its distillate from the 2000 vintage was selected by Corman Collins for The Auld Alliance, aged 21 years and bottled at 49.3% cask strength.
Matured in ex-bourbon oak, it takes the rounded Bajan profile into drier, oakier territory after two decades in wood. The nose is fresh and playful, with tangerine peel, cola and a hint of floral lift over the heavier base, while the palate brings vanilla, caramel and dark chocolate wrapped in firm oak spice. The long ageing shows in the depth and tannin, the alcohol carrying a touch of edge that focused sipping smooths out. A rewarding bottle for those curious about long-aged Barbados rum and the classic Mount Gay character pushed toward maturity.
