Description
Corimbo I is made by Bodegas La Horra, the Ribera del Duero venture of Roda, the respected Rioja house behind wines such as Roda I and Cirsion. It is built from Tinta del Pais grown on old vines of more than forty years, planted at around 800 metres in the villages of La Horra and Roa in Burgos. The altitude is central to the style: thin air and cold nights stretch the growing season, locking in acidity, colour and aromatic detail, while the old vines yield small crops of concentrated fruit. Harvest is by hand with a strict selection in the cellar. Ageing runs to sixteen months in French and American oak, where measured oxygen exchange firms the structure and layers in toasted spice, cedar and a fine nutty character without flattening the fruit. The colour is deep and dense. The nose is intense and layered, with dark plum and cherry over toasted spices, cedar and fine hazelnut. The palate is full, firm and long, the tannins tightly grained and built for cellaring. Serve at 17 to 18 degrees and decant. A wine for roast and grilled red meat.
