Description
Corimbo is the single varietal Tempranillo from Bodegas La Horra in D.O. Ribera del Duero, a wine with a reputation that has reached restaurant lists well beyond Spain. Ribera del Duero sits on a high plateau in Castilla y León, where vineyards above 800 metres face hot days and very cold nights. That wide diurnal range, combined with poor limestone and sandy clay soils, gives Tempranillo, known locally as Tinto Fino, its deep colour, firm structure and the acidity that keeps a warm vintage such as 2022 fresh. After fermentation the wine spends 14 months in French and American oak barrels, the two woods balancing structure and spice against vanilla and sweeter tone, with slow oxygen exchange softening the tannin. The colour is deep. The nose shows ripe red fruit lifted by aromatic herbs, with cocoa, spice and a measured oak frame. The palate is full bodied and structured, the tannin firm but ripe, the finish long and surprisingly fresh for the vintage. Serve at 16 to 18 degrees and decant an hour ahead. It is built for roast and grilled red meat.
