An unaged Hampden white at a blazing 69%, pure Trelawny funk with esters, solvent and tropical fruit over olive and a touch of brine, oily and fierce, made for sipping with caution or building ester heavy daiquiris.
Description
The Colours of Rum bottled this Hampden as an unaged white at a formidable 69%, the distillery's raw character with no barrel to soften it. Stripped of oak, it puts the estate's wild fermentation and high ester output on full display, a bottle aimed squarely at drinkers who chase Jamaican funk at its loudest.
Distilled on double retort pot stills from molasses, it is all esters and solvent, glue and acetone notes riding over tropical fruit, with an olive and faintly briny edge that is pure Hampden. The texture is oily and the finish runs warm and fruity. Neat it is intense and demands respect, but it truly shines in a daiquiri, where the funk powers through anything you mix it with. Uncompromising, vivid and exactly what an unaged Trelawny white should be.
