A 41 year old continentally aged Hampden from The Colours of Rum, distilled in 1983 and still vibrant, with overripe tropical fruit, marzipan, glue and old polished wood over a smoky, spicy finish.
Description
Bottled by Poland's The Colours of Rum, a purist house working at cask strength with no additives, this is a 41 year old Hampden distilled in 1983. Hampden is the reference point for high ester Jamaican funk, and four decades of slow, continental ageing in the cooler European climate have preserved that character far better than tropical heat would.
Matured in ex-bourbon and bottled at its natural 55.1 percent, it stays vibrant and funky despite its age, with overripe tropical fruit, marzipan and glue meeting roasted nuts, bacon, light smoke and old polished wood. The palate is creamy and deep, finishing on overripe fruit, wood and spice. Certified unsweetened, it is a striking old Hampden that shows continental ageing at its best, a slow, contemplative sipper for seasoned drinkers.
