A 32 year old Hampden under the funky C<>H mark from The Colours of Rum, a single cask at 54.6% with overripe tropical fruit, citrus, pastry notes and well-integrated oak, a polished and mature take on island funk.
Description
The Colours of Rum, from Warsaw, bottles top-tier purist single casks with no additives, and this is a standout: a 32 year old Hampden under the estery CH mark from the prized 1990 vintage. Drawn as a single cask at cask strength, it is a long-aged version of Hampden's fruit-driven funk.
Distilled on double-retort pot stills from molasses and matured in ex-bourbon wood, the three decades of ageing have refined rather than dulled the esters. Overripe tropical fruit and pineapple lead the nose with a fermented lift, then the palate brings pineapple, citrus and ester over well-integrated oak, with a pastry roundness from long maturation. The finish stays tropical and faintly medicinal. This is a mature, elegant expression of Hampden that keeps its identity while gaining polish and depth, an unsweetened sipper for drinkers who want aged refinement layered over the distillery's signature fruit.
