Cono Sur grow this Pinot Noir in Colchagua, in Chile’s Central Valley, with a focus on sustainable farming. Aged in stainless steel to keep the fruit fresh, it is a bright, light bodied red of cherry, raspberry and a floral lift.
Description
Cono Sur was founded in 1993 by the families behind Concha y Toro to make expressive New World wines with a strong environmental focus, using renewable energy across the estate. This Pinot Noir comes from Colchagua in Chile's Central Valley, where coastal influence and cooler pockets suit a grape that struggles in real heat. Pinot Noir is naturally pale and light, and here it is aged nine months in stainless steel rather than oak, which keeps the fruit clean, fresh and unadorned and preserves the bright ruby colour. With no wood character to mask it, the focus stays on primary fruit and the grape's natural perfume. Expect a translucent red, a nose of fresh cherry, raspberry and red currant with a floral lift and a faint earthy, peppery note, and a light bodied palate with crisp acidity, soft tannins and a clean finish. Serve cool, around 13 to 15 degrees, which suits its light frame. Its freshness makes it an easy, food friendly red that can stand in for a white.
