Description
Conde de Valdemar Reserva is a traditional Rioja from Bodegas Valdemar, a family winery cultivating its own vineyards in the D.O.Ca. since 1889. It is a classic coupage of Tempranillo with Graciano and Mazuelo drawn from vineyards across Rioja Alta, Rioja Oriental and Rioja Alavesa, three sub-zones whose mix of clay-limestone and alluvial soils gives the blend both structure and freshness. The continental climate, tempered by Atlantic and Mediterranean influence, ripens the Tempranillo steadily while the Graciano contributes acidity and aromatic lift. As a Reserva, the wine is aged 27 months in French and American oak barrels, a long ageing that softens the tannins through slow oxygen exchange and layers in vanilla, coconut and sweet spice from the wood, with bottle time then adding tertiary complexity. It is deep ruby with garnet at the rim, showing red berries and plum over vanilla, sweet tobacco and a developing leather and dried-herb character. The palate is medium to full at 13.5% alcohol, with fine, resolved tannins, good acidity and a long savoury finish. Serve at 16 to 18C with roast and grilled meats.
