A Cuban rum elixir from Conde de Cuba, this molasses-based, column-distilled bottling drops to 32% and sits firmly in the sweet, liqueur-leaning corner of the Spanish style rather than the dry ron ligero camp.
Description
Conde de Elixir comes from Conde de Cuba and, as the name suggests, belongs to the sweet elixir side of rum rather than the island's classic light ron ligero. Built on molasses spirit distilled on a column still and bottled at a low 32% ABV, it is plainly a sweetened, rounded pour. Cuban rum is traditionally prized for clean lightness, but an elixir like this is meant to be soft, syrupy and dessert-leaning, leading with sweetness over spirit character. It suits those after an easy, sugar-forward sipper, and is best taken on its own terms as a flavoured-style Cuban rum rather than a dry aged one.
