Comalats is rooted in Segarra, at the heart of Costers del Segre in Catalonia, where the Bonet family has farmed vines for more than seven hundred years. This Garnacha comes from elevated, secluded land worked organically, and the wine is made as a natural red with minimal intervention. The altitude brings cool nights and a wide day-to-night temperature swing, which slows ripening, holds the alcohol to a gentle 12.5 percent and preserves the bright acidity and perfume that define the wine. Made without oak, it keeps the fruit clean and primary, the absence of barrel and the natural approach letting the Garnacha and the high, stony site speak directly. It is bright and translucent in the glass, with fresh strawberry and red cherry on the nose lifted by a floral, herbal note. The palate is light and juicy, with soft tannins, lively acidity and a fresh finish that makes it easy to drink, even lightly chilled. Serve at 14 to 16 degrees, with roast chicken, pork or a plate of charcuterie. Its lightness lets it stand in for a white across a range of dishes.
