Description
Com Tu is the smallest cuvee of L'Espectacle, a Montsant project from René Barbier and his son Anderson, made in the high La Figuera area near Gratallops. The zone is given over almost entirely to Grenache, both old and young vines, planted between 500 and 600 metres in a notably cool pocket. That altitude is the key: warm days ripen the Garnacha fully, while cold nights slow the sugars and lock in acidity and aromatic detail, so the wine carries ripeness without losing freshness. Ageing takes place over 18 months in foudres, large neutral oak vessels that allow a slow, gentle oxygen exchange and soften the structure without adding overt oak flavour. The result is a deep, fragrant red of ripe raspberry and plum, with crushed black pepper, dried Mediterranean herbs and a stony earth character running through. It is full at 14.8 per cent yet balanced, the tannins supple and the finish long and savoury. Serve at 16 to 18 degrees and decant. The farming is sustainable. It suits roast lamb, beef and richer game birds.
