Collectivum XXVIII Blended Malt Scotch Whisky Diageo Special Releases 2017 is a blended malt Scotch from Diageo. It marries single malts from more than one distillery, Cardhu among them. A 2003 plan to sell a vatted malt under the Cardhu name caused an industry outcry, and was reversed.

Cardhu lends a soft, honeyed Speyside sweetness to the blend. A wine cask shaped it, the berry fruit meeting the soft spirit. Long ageing turns the fresh apple towards honey, dried fruit and a soft spice. The Cumming family ran it for three generations before it passed to the Walkers. It runs three wash and three spirit stills, all of a pear shape. The soft, sweet spirit takes cask flavour gently while keeping its pear and honey. The clean spirit shows the cask clearly, vanilla and honey to the fore. Its malt has been the heart of the Johnnie Walker blends ever since.

At its natural 57.3% it is concentrated. Soft orchard fruit, honey and a gentle spice run through it, smooth and approachable. The texture is soft and smooth, the fruit lifted by vanilla. Apple, honey and a soft oak see out the finish. A characterful blended malt Scotch.
