Cointreau Spicy Special Edition is a reworking of the famous French orange liqueur made by Cointreau, the house that perfected triple sec in 1875 by redistilling macerated sweet and bitter orange peels into a clear, dry spirit. This edition keeps that bright orange core and adds a finely balanced spicy component for a warmer, more characterful profile, bottled at 30%.
The nose is intense orange with fresh citrus and a subtle spicy sharpness, the palate full bodied and harmonious with sweet and bitter orange, fine spice and a warming intensity, closing long, fresh and spicy. Behind the bar it works much as the original does, adding aromatic bittersweet orange lift, but the spice gives it a modern edge that suits creative serves. It harmonises with tonic water, ginger beer, fresh citrus and spicy cocktails, and slots into margarita, cosmopolitan and sidecar riffs where a little heat is wanted. Pour it chilled and neat to taste the spice clearly.
