Description
Codigo 1530 Reposado is made at Varo Destileria in Amatitan, in the lowland Valles of Jalisco that the brand calls Los Bajos. It is built from fully mature Blue Weber agave and water filtered through the region's volcanic soil, and it is produced without chemical additives, flavourings or sweeteners. The aim is to keep the agave forward profile of lowland tequila while adding the polish of a short barrel rest.
The agave is cooked by low pressure autoclave and extracted on a roller mill that draws only the first press juice, then distilled and rested six months in French white oak barrels that previously held Napa Cabernet. That wine cask gives the spirit much of its character. The nose shows fresh agave, sweet vanilla custard, ripe fruit and a gentle note of wood, while the palate is mild with baked agave, creamy caramel, pale cocoa and a fine trace of cinnamon. Bottled at 38%.
