Description
From the bottler Daily Dram, a 26 year old Clynelish, distilled in 1995, bottled at 57%. Clynelish is a Diageo distillery at Brora, prized by blenders for its oily, waxy malt. Clynelish sits on the North Sea coast at Brora, in the far north east of the Highlands.
The spirit was worked through the tall stills for a citrussy, oily spirit, for the famous waxy texture at its heart. It was matured in refill ex-Bourbon oak, vanilla and honey behind the wax. In the oxidative, evaporative years concentration brings tropical esters of mango and pineapple over a deep, beeswax richness. Years in oak round the spirit, the citrus deepening to orange and tropical fruit. A coastal maturation lends a faint brine to the oily, waxy malt. The oily, waxy texture is the signature that blenders prize above all. The waxy, oily spirit takes cask flavour well while keeping its citrus and coast.
At a natural 57% it is full and oily. Beeswax, honey and a coastal freshness, with a soft vanilla from the oak. Beneath it run candle wax, lemon and a coastal salt. The close is long, wax over a citrus lift. This is an oily, maritime Highland single malt.
