Description
A 25 year old Clynelish from the bottler MyNameIsWhisky, distilled in 1996, bottled at 54.6%, one of 60 bottles. Clynelish makes the celebrated waxy, oily Highland malt on the far north east coast at Brora. The original Clynelish was founded in 1819 by the Marquess of Stafford during the Highland Clearances.
It was drawn off three wash and three spirit stills, for an oily, lemony make with a savoury edge. A sherry cask wrapped the waxy spirit in dried fruit and a nutty depth. In the oxidative, evaporative years concentration brings tropical esters of mango and pineapple over a deep, beeswax richness. Refill oak lets the famous Clynelish wax lead, lemon and honey beneath. A coastal maturation lends a faint brine to the oily, waxy malt. Active wood frames the citrus without smothering the waxy texture. The waxy, oily spirit takes cask flavour well while keeping its citrus and coast.
At cask strength 54.6% it is full bodied. Beeswax, citrus and a honeyed oil, with dried fruit, fig and walnut from the cask. The mouthfeel is oily, the citrus carried on a waxy body. Citrus, wax and a faint brine see out the finish. This is a coastal Highland single malt of rare texture.
