Description
A 24 year old Clynelish from Scotland's oldest independent bottler Cadenhead's, distilled in 1990, bottled at 44.7%, one of 156 bottles. Clynelish, on the Sutherland coast, makes one of the most distinctive textures in Scotch, its famous wax. Clynelish is unpeated, its character built on texture, citrus and coast rather than smoke.
Made in copper stills for a coastal, waxy make, building the cult Clynelish waxiness. Maturation came in ex-Bourbon wood, the oak quiet behind the wax. In the oxidative, evaporative years concentration brings tropical esters of mango and pineapple over a deep, beeswax richness. The slow loss of the angel's share concentrates the waxy, citrussy core over the years. A coastal maturation lends a faint brine to the oily, waxy malt. The original Clynelish was founded in 1819 by the Marquess of Stafford during the Highland Clearances. The waxy, oily spirit takes cask flavour well while keeping its citrus and coast.
At 44.7% it is soft and waxy. The famous wax over lemon and orange, with a soft vanilla from the oak. Soft citrus and a honeyed wax sit behind the cask. The close is long, wax over a citrus lift. This is an oily, maritime Highland single malt.
