Description
This Clynelish was bottled by the bottler Creative Whisky Company, a 16 year old, distilled in 1995, from cask 4625, bottled at 55.5%, one of 293 bottles. Clynelish is a waxy, citrussy Highland single malt from the village of Brora. A coastal maturation lends a faint brine to the waxy, oily spirit.
The spirit was run through copper stills on Clynemilton Burn water, to build a waxy, coastal, citrussy spirit. Ex-Bourbon casks held it, the soft oak letting the waxy citrus lead. Into oxidative maturity, slow air ingress builds fruity ethyl esters (orange and pineapple) over the deepening wax. A coastal maturation lends a faint brine to the oily, waxy malt. The distillery was built in 1967 next to the original Clynelish of 1819, which was renamed Brora and later closed. Refill oak lets the famous Clynelish wax lead, lemon and honey beneath. Two old Brora warehouses still stand on the site, a link to its silent neighbour.
Bottled at a cask strength 55.5%, it is rich. Waxy honey, lemon and a savoury edge, with a soft vanilla from the oak. The texture is thick and oily, the wax coating the palate. The finish is long, waxy and citrussy. This is Clynelish's oily, coastal Highland style.
