Description
The bottler Timeless & Tasty selected this Clynelish, a 10 year old, distilled in 2011, from cask 800313, bottled at 60.2%, one of 234 bottles. Clynelish, on the Sutherland coast, makes one of the most distinctive textures in Scotch, its famous wax. A coastal maturation lends a faint brine to the waxy, oily spirit.
The spirit was drawn off three wash and three spirit stills, for a maritime spirit with a beeswax richness. An ex-Bourbon barrel shaped it, vanilla beneath the oily, coastal spirit. Through integration spirit and wood marry, vanillin settling into vanilla as ethyl esters lend a riper citrus over the wax. A coastal maturation lends a faint brine to the oily, waxy malt. Years in oak round the spirit, the citrus deepening to orange and tropical fruit. The slow loss of the angel's share concentrates the waxy, citrussy core over the years. Most of its make goes to blending, with a fourteen year old the flagship single malt.
At a full 60.2% it is bold yet waxy. The famous wax over lemon and orange, with a soft vanilla from the oak. Orange, beeswax and a maritime salt fill the middle. The finish runs waxy, coastal and clean. This is the waxy heart of Johnnie Walker Gold.
