Description
A 10 year old Clynelish from Sukhinder Singh's Elixir Distillers, distilled in 2010, from cask 800206, bottled at 60.3%, one of 236 bottles. Clynelish, on the Sutherland coast, makes one of the most distinctive textures in Scotch, its famous wax. A coastal maturation lends a faint brine to the waxy, oily spirit.
Run through copper stills on Clynemilton Burn water, to build a waxy, coastal, citrussy spirit. It was matured in refill ex-Bourbon oak, vanilla and honey behind the wax. By the integrating teens congeners fade and esters build, the waxy, oily spirit growing rounder. Long ageing turns the fresh lemon towards candied orange, beeswax and tropical fruit. A coastal maturation lends a faint brine to the oily, waxy malt. It is the heart malt of Johnnie Walker Gold Label, and a sought after single malt in its own right. Clynelish wax and a maritime salt run through the maturing spirit.
At cask strength 60.3% it is full bodied. An oily wax with citrus and brine, with a soft vanilla from the oak. The mouthfeel is oily, the citrus carried on a waxy body. Citrus, wax and a faint brine see out the finish. This is the cult waxy malt of Brora.
