Description
Clos Lentiscus Kikiriki Tinto is a natural young red made by Manel Avinyó at a family estate inside the Garraf Natural Park near Barcelona, in Penedès. Avinyó works 20 hectares organically, cultivating the vines by hand with his horse Ringo and reviving the family cellar around native Catalan varieties. This bottling blends Tempranillo and Cariñena and is made as a natural wine, which means minimal intervention in the cellar, native yeast fermentation and little to no added sulphur, so the fruit and the limestone-influenced terroir of the Garraf hills come through directly. At 11 percent the alcohol is low, the result of early picking that keeps the wine fresh and drinkable. The colour is bright and youthful, the nose is all crunchy red fruit, raspberry, redcurrant and cherry, with a herbal, earthy lift behind it. The palate is light bodied and juicy with soft tannins and a savoury, slightly wild character typical of low-sulphur wines. This is a red to drink young and even to serve lightly chilled. It is certified organic and vegan. Serve at 14 to 16 degrees. Good with charcuterie, roast chicken and tomato-based dishes.
