Description
Clos Lentiscus is Manel Avinyó's natural wine project in the Garraf massif south of Barcelona, named for the mastic bush of the Mediterranean scrub and rooted in the area's oral and farming traditions. This rosado blends the red Ull de Llebre, the Catalan name for Tempranillo, with Xarel·lo Rojo, a pink skinned mutation of the local white grape. The vineyards sit on sandy and calcareous soils close to the coast, where the sea moderates the heat and the poor, free draining ground gives low yields and saline, mineral character. Farming is natural, organic and vegan, with native yeast fermentation, no additions and ageing in stainless steel to keep the wine fresh and primary. The colour is a pale, lively pink. The nose is bright and saline, with red berries, citrus peel, white flowers and a touch of green apple. The palate is dry and crisp, light bodied, with firm acidity and a salty, mineral finish that reflects the coastal soils. Serve well chilled at around 8 to 10 degrees.
