Description
Clos i Terrasses is the estate of Daphne Glorian, a founding figure of the modern Priorat and maker of one of Spain's most sought after reds in the D.O.Q. Priorat. Clos Erasmus is built on Garnacha with Syrah, grown organically on the region's defining llicorella, a fractured slate and quartz soil that forces the vines to root deep through the steep terraces in search of water. These low yielding old vines and the warm, sheltered Mediterranean mountain climate produce small, thick skinned berries with intense colour, phenolics and concentration, balanced by cool nights that hold acidity. A careful hand selection of the fruit precedes a long ageing of eighteen months in French oak barrels, where slow oxygen exchange knits the firm tannins together and adds a fine layer of spice and toast around the dark fruit. The colour is a deep, dense purple. The nose shows blackberry, dark cherry, liquorice, violet and mineral, smoky notes from the slate. The palate is full bodied and powerful at 15 percent, with ripe, structured tannins, fresh acidity and a long, mineral finish. Serve at 17 to 18 degrees and decant well ahead. It suits rich roast and grilled meats and game.
