Description
Clos du Rouge Gorge is a small estate in Roussillon run by Cyril Fhal, founded in 2002. He farms six hectares of vines up to a hundred years old biodynamically, without synthetic products, and ferments with native yeasts under a philosophy of minimal intervention. Jeunes Vignes is the estate's entry cuvee, a natural monovarietal Grenache from the younger plots that is made for early drinking. Roussillon has a warm, dry Mediterranean climate, but this cuvee is picked and vinified to keep freshness to the fore rather than power. The wine sees only two months in French oak, a short, gentle passage that settles it while leaving the fruit unmarked by wood. The result is a bright, medium-light red with raspberry, red cherry and redcurrant, a floral note and a peppery, savoury lift, with soft tannins and fresh acidity. It is a lively, fruit-led wine best drunk in its youth. Serve lightly cool at 14 to 15 degrees. It suits charcuterie, roast pork and lighter meats.
