Description
Clos des Vignes du Maynes lies in the Mâconnais in southern Burgundy, a walled vineyard farmed organically and biodynamically for decades and worked by Julien Guillot with minimal intervention. Megamix is a field blend of Pinot Noir, Gamay and a little Chardonnay, co-fermented as a single wine. The limestone-rich soils and cool continental climate keep acidity high and give the red fruit a fresh, mineral cut, while the two red grapes bring lift and juicy energy and the white grape adds a floral edge. Fermentation runs on wild yeast with little or no added sulphur, and the wine is raised in used French oak barrels for around 12 months, which softens it gently without adding obvious oak flavour. The colour is a bright, pale ruby. The nose shows raspberry, redcurrant and cherry, with a stony, savoury note. The palate is light, dynamic and juicy, with fine tannins and a fresh, mineral finish. Serve cool, at 14 to 15 degrees. It suits roast chicken, charcuterie and mushroom dishes.
