Clément Canne Bleue 2020

Clement Canne Bleue 2020 is a single cane white agricole from the Distillerie du Simon behind the Clement brand on Martinique. The Canne Bleue line spotlights one sugar cane variety, and this vintage shows a more earthy, savoury reading of it.

Distilled from fresh pressed cane juice on a creole column run low to keep the spirit grassy and vegetal, it is bottled unaged and unsweetened at 50 percent. The nose is floral and fresh with sugarcane and lime, joined by lychee and roasted peanuts, the palate stays floral, fresh and vegetal on cane, and the finish turns peppery and earthy with a faintly bitter, tobacco edge. This is a blanc that leans savoury rather than soft, and it comes alive most in a Ti Punch, where the cane and citrus brighten and the bitterness settles into balance.
